3 THINGS MOST SUCCESSFUL LEADERS DO
“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” - Vince Lombardi
So many people place so much emphasis on the word success, but there are few willing to do those things needed to be successful. The most successful leaders do things others are not willing to do.
In my journey of becoming a leadership coach, I have had the opportunity to interview, coach, befriend, and be mentored by some amazing leaders. In our talks, I have discovered similarities in their responses to leadership and success. All of these leaders have inspired me regardless of where they are in their journey of significance.
What are you doing to achieve significance and success?
Every successful leader has a consistent practice that has provided a formal for success and significance. The key word is consistency. Here are three consistent practices of many successful leaders.
1. Reflect
What mistakes have you made? The Japanese athlete Morihei Ueshiba said, “Failure is the key to success; each mistake teaches us something.”
Just as I have researched the success of most leaders, I have also researched commonalities of the unsuccessful. Those who refuse to reflect usually will limit their growth. Reflection allows us to learn. Learning is the key to growth.
When you feel stuck, it is time to reflect. Take a few minutes to reflect on your mistakes and accomplishments.
2. Refocus
Refocusing is just another way of prioritizing, which I will discuss in great detail in my eBook titled The Power of I.F. - 8 Essential Words for Living Your Best Life that will be available in the next week or two. Refocusing means setting new goals and targeting your ambitions.
American businessman, author, and philanthropist Tony Robbins said, “Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”
Your ability to refocus will prepare you for great success. You can add your name to the list of successful leaders when you figure out how to effectively refocus.
3. Act
At some point, you will need to act after all of your reflecting and refocusing. This is one of the biggest differences from the successful and unsuccessful. Some people think they need more money or resources, but the truth is successful people are not afraid to act.
Successful leaders do not fail less than unsuccessful leaders. Unsuccessful leaders are afraid to fail, which keeps them from acting.
The Spanish artist Pablo Picasso stated, “Action is the foundational key to all success.” And the English philosopher and anthropologist Herbert Spencer said, “The great aim of education is not knowledge but action.”
Whether you feel successful or not, these 3 things will add success and significance to your life. All your dreams and goals are dependent on you becoming more consistent as a leader. So what will you do to become a more successful leader? What is your plan for success?
