3 Ways to Succeed at Life and Work
Work can be an intimidating and frustrating place when certain things aren’t understood. Everyone wants to be successful at work. Otherwise, people wouldn’t keep going in day after day.
I know most people want to be paid, but your pay is directly connected with how successful you are with your job responsibilities.
I have heard and seen so many people express feelings of unhappiness, resentment, and confusion with their places of work. When there are these types of disconnects, it can be very difficult to be successful at work.
Today, let’s discuss a few myths people have had about the workplace and how you can handle these challenges and turn them into opportunities. There are 3 ways to guarantee your success at work.
1. You are a salesman. Many people hate salesmen, but we are all salesmen and saleswomen. Whether it is personal or professional, we are are selling something. Once you come to an understanding that you are selling something, there are two questions you will have to ask yourself.
A) What am I selling?
B) Who am I selling to?
We are salesmen and saleswomen first with our families first, then with our businesses.
A salesman is a person who sells goods or services. I believe we were all created to serve. If you aren’t serving or selling yourself to your family first, your family may not be around for long. Your family is a key part of your leadership. So work on serving them just as your serve your customers at work.
2. You should love your job. You have probably heard someone tell you, “It’s just a job, it pays the bills.” With this type of attitude, it will be a challenge for you to be successful at work. As we discussed in Delivering Exceptional Customer Service, attitude is everything. It was Confucius that said, “Choose a job you love, and your never have to work a day in your life.” Success of your life and work has a lot to do if you love what you are doing or not. If you don’t love your job, it may be time to find a job you love.
3. You are an extension of your organization. I would never work for any organization whose mission did not align with my life’s mission. Another big part of your life and work success is choosing to work for the right organization.
