GOOD LEADERS MAKE GOOD CHOICES

“When you wake up every day, you have two choices.  You can either be positive or negative; an optimist or a pessimist.  I choose to be an optimist.  It’s all a matter of perspective.” - Harvey Mackay

There is an art to making good choices.  Leaders aren’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but good leaders make good choices.

What guides you when you are making decisions?

Whether you are making a personal or professional decision, you need to have a process with your decision-making.  Of course, some decisions are easier to make than others, but you will still need a process that will help you with the success of achieving your life goals.

Let’s look at some influences that help leaders make good decisions.

1. Learn from Past Experiences

Are you wiser than you were as a child?  I hope the answer would be an emphatic, YES!  As we age, life has a way of making us wiser.  Those things we see, hear, feel, touch, and experience all shapes how we make future decisions.  Past successes, failures, risks, and mistakes all are great learning experiences if we choose to learn from past experiences.

2. Be Observant

Being observant means you are quick to notice things.  Are you observant?  Good leaders see things quicker than most other people.  This is an important attribute of a leader.  It would be extremely beneficial for you to quickly notice issues in a relationship, whether it be personal or professional.  This observant spirit will allow you to position yourself for success with all your relationships.  We already discussed the importance of relationships in our build a team to achieve your dreams.

3. Stay Calm

I know this is easier said than done.  How would having a peace of mind change help you make those tough decisions in your life?  Staying calm slows you down and keeps you poised.  Poor decisions are usually made when we are going too fast, thinking too hard, or when we are too upset.  Remember, no one is perfect, but there is no reason to get too worked up about any decision we will have to make.

What choices do you have to make?  Do you have a tough decision that needs to be made?  Let these factors guide your decision-making and make good choices that will help push your life in the right direction.
