INVESTING IN YOUR SELF-IMAGE
“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” – Willie Nelson
We are usually our own worst critics. No matter how well we perform, it is easy to find the negative in our performance. How we feel and think can be the start of a negative self-image. Are you creating a negative self-image of yourself?
No one can create a negative self-image of you, but you. The success of your leadership is dependent on how you invest in yourself. Here are three ways you can positively invest in your self-image.
1. Compassion
How compassionate are you? Our minds and hands should never be complacent when it comes to being compassionate.
Compassion causes us to aspire to assist others to a higher elevation of success. This can only happen when we try to see things from the perspective of others. Seeing life from someone else’s perspective helps us to forget about our own difficulties and dilemma, and allows us to develop compassion for all of God’s creation.
2. Charity
How much do you give back? In Acts 20:35 we have heard a familiar phrase, “It’s better to give than to receive.” Giving doesn’t only refer to giving money.
Matter of fact, one of the most important ways to be charitable is giving of your time and efforts.
You will feel much better about yourself once you start displaying charity to others. Not only will you feel better about yourself, you will also have others investing in your positive self-image.
3. Company
Finally, what kind of company do you keep? We have to be careful of the people we surround ourselves with.
We call people our friends that are not deserving of the title. They may be mere associates that have just become familiar.
In this world, there are takers and givers. When there is a balance between the two, then you have a friendship.
Take a moment and assess if you are investing in your self-image. As we discussed earlier, no one else should create your self-image. Keep investing in yourself because before you can invest in anyone else you first must invest in yourself.
