LOSING: WHY IT IS ACTUALLY GOOD FOR YOU
No one enjoys losing, but it is inevitable. Everyone at some point in life will have to face coming up short. In the past year, we all have made mistakes and poor decisions that ended up resulting in an unfavorable outcome. It’s part of life.
My family and I just encountered this experience just this past weekend. My three sons love basketball and are currently playing. Two out of three received a taste of defeat this past weekend. Whether it is youth basketball or adult business dealings, losing is hard.
Please reflect on the current year’s losses and defeats. After you finish reflecting, you will discover two things about losing.
1. Losing Creates Mental Toughness
There is a mental toughness that comes from losing. Everyone fears losing because everyone knows that no one is exempt from losing. The question is what do you do after you have experienced a loss. It takes strength, courage, and determination to get back up after falling. This is why losing creates mental toughness.
2. Losing Creates Learning Opportunities
When a person experiences disappointment, there are two choices that a person can make. A loss can cause someone to feel bad about who they are or they can learn from the experience. Learning from the experience will create several new opportunities for success.
As we enter the New Year, take a little time to think on your losses and defeats. It is proven that we learn more from losing versus winning. So make your New Year better by taking notes and learning from the disappointments that happened this year.
