THE POWER OF LEARNING

“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” -Anthony J. D'Angelo

The wisdom of a seasoned presenter can enhance the knowledge of the entire audience. The presenter can share actual life experiences that are effective and provide insight as to how they approached and performed various tasks. Their experiential knowledge of how it worked and the results and outcome are invaluable information to the listeners.

Why do we all have to make the same mistakes? If you can avoid the pitfalls to growth, why not listen to someone who has the wisdom and experience to carry out the task? Exert yourself and ask questions to clarify the process so that you can make the necessary adjustments for your growth. They’ve been there and done that. Respect their expertise and intelligence in their field of study. After your acquisition of their knowledge, don’t forget to extend a heart of gratitude towards them for taking the time to share.

Don’t forget the young presenters. These individuals have fresh and new ideas. Many were formally educated and have knowledge regarding most recent data; new techniques and methods. Their familiarity with younger generations and their desires and wishes can be invaluable to the growth of your organization if that group is part of your target audience. We cannot forget the energy that a young presenter can bring to an event.

I sat in a Youth/Leadership Orientation presented by Dr. Bryant Hall and was amazed at the in-depth knowledge of the youth of today. The audience for this orientation session ranged from 10 years of age to adults in their 70’s. The common goal was to outreach to the youth of today and to first understand our hearts as volunteers and servants before we can lovingly lead a child. We all learned appropriate tactics on how to communicate with the children. As we listened to the presenter, we were taught how to develop the inner strength of a child. This young presenter rose to our expectations because of his passion for the topic and preparation of the presentation.

Regardless of age; presenters, both young and of age; should be embraced and encouraged. It takes an enormous amount of courage to tell the truth when most people don’t care to hear it.  It also takes an enormous amount of courage to sacrifice your time, heart, and experiences with others to present information that can help someone else.  This is the beginning of positive change to solve solutions to our society.

On the other hand, I know you’ve seen presenters that were not prepared for the event.   There are even lessons to be learned from this situation. You can learn to never stand in front of an audience discussing subject matter that you have no idea about.   Generally, there is an evaluation at the end of the class session. Be brutally honest in hopes that someone will read the evaluation and encourage the presenter to be more prepared in the future. Be honest, so that the presenter will have feedback that can be used for lessons learned.

There is power in lessons learned; lessons learned from someone young or old; amateur or experienced.  In lieu of that, remember to focus on the material being presented by the presenter and what you can learn from them and carry forward for growth.
