Why It Is More Than A Job

Monday can be a challenging day for most people because it is time to go back to work; back to the grind!

How do you feel about your job?  Would you be surprised to hear most Americans are unhappy with their jobs?

The Conference Board has been running a job satisfaction survey since 1987.  According to the latest report by the New York-based nonprofit research group; the majority of Americans (52.3%) are unhappy at work.

On the other hand, the first initial survey revealed 61.1% of Americans were satisfied with their job.

What does All This Mean?  Why are People Dissatisfied?

This means many are disconnected with their organizations, thus causing a decrease in workplace productivity.

There are many reasons why people dislike their job, included the following, but no limited to:

- Poor management

- Loss of enthusiasm

- Lack being challenged

- Unhappy with pay

- No room for growth

- Don’t feel valued

- Feelings of the grass being greener on the other side

A Change is Gonna Come. . . .

Are you part of the majority?  If so, try these suggestions for a much needed change:

- Change your attitude,

- Change your approach,

- Change your perspective, or

- Change your job.

We have heard the phrase,

“If you love what you do, you will never have to work a day in your life.”

I live by these words.

Make the Best of It. . . .

Let’s face it — we spend the majority of our lives on a job / working — but think about what the alternative could be.  Why not try to make the best of it, somehow, some way!

As a physical therapist, I have been blessed to meet many great people and help them navigate through their rehabilitation.  I am so grateful for every client I have the pleasure of working with.  We leave an imprint on one another.

It is so rewarding to help someone on their road to recovery.  I am able to see their before and after and be a part of such a life circumstance.  But what is even more rewarding than that, are the relationships that are formed!

The hours can be long and the paperwork seemingly never-ending, but I will always make the best of it.  It is about the experience and more than anything the ability to serve with purpose.  It is more than a job for me.  It is a key part of my life.

Question: How can you make positive mindset changes to look at your job differently and make your work a more rewarding experience?  Leave your comments below.
