I Believe

I’m not an expert when it comes to the Bible, but I do believe.

Believing is most of the battle.  If you believe, then you can achieve! I have many favorites in the Bible, but there is one passage in the Bible that speaks to my heart daily because I BELIEVE!

“And we know that all things work together for the good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose.”  ~Romans 8:28

No matter the challenge.

No matter the situation.

No matter the outcome.

BELIEVE!

Be weird enough to BELIEVE “that all things work together for the good to those who love God.”

When you believe, there is no way you can lose.

The Art of Simplicity

In an age of instant gratification, we have lost The Art of Simplicity.

We have attempted to make life easier through the use of iPod’s, GPS devices, smart phones, tablets, and computers. These things have made our lives MUCH better.  But, sometimes we end up making life more complicated because they become distractions.

How many times have you seen people texting while driving?  (Scary, please no texting while driving)

Or people playing on their phones rather than talking to people.

We need to get back to basics, which I described briefly in a previous post titled FOCUS.

To perfect The Art of Simplicity in your life, try these helpful tips.

5 Ways of Perfecting The Art of Simplicity

#1 Find your secret place.

It is impossible to get your thoughts together without a consistent daily routine of meditation.  (I don’t know your religious preference, but this is where my daily walk with God helps me.)

#2 Try living life with as little as possible to improve clarity in your life.

Some distractions are necessary, but not all.  With so many distractions, it can be hard to see your life’s purpose.

#3 Don’t live to make money.

The love of money gets many people and organizations in trouble.

#4 Invest in Meaningful Relationships.

Remember, life is all about relationships, not money.  However, make sure the relationships you build supports your life’s purpose and adds worth to both parties involved.

Check out the blog post Boarding Passes.

A SHIP is designed to take you places.  So if your companionSHIP, friendSHIP, partnerSHIP, or relationSHIP isn’t taking you anywhere, then it’s best to abandon that SHIP.  You deserve nothing but the best and your worth is priceless.  ~Ranran

#5 Create Good Habits.

Good habits provide you with an environment to focus on the more important things in life such as your faith, family, etc.

Perfect The Art of Simplicity in your life.

What’s your purpose on this Earth?  What dreams do you have?

Watch your life’s purpose become clearer and your dreams become more achievable.

Fear Not Playlist – PART I

There are many sayings about the impact of MUSIC:-- Music is healing to the soul -- Music (like love) makes the world go ‘round -- One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. ~ Bob Marley

With over 3,000 songs on my iPod and the VAST number of songs made to choose from; we are taking a different approach on this Fear Not Friday, to let you know what our DAILY Fear Not Be Weird playlist looks like (or should I say, sounds like).

These are only a few of our Fear Not Be Weird Go-To songs, and this list does not even touch the tip of the iceberg.  So, for that reason, this is only Part I for this kind of list. Note: These are not listed in any particular order.

FEAR NOT BE WEIRD PLAYLIST – PART I

  1. “I Choose” – India Arie.  This song speaks volumes to a Fear Not Be Weird attitude, as we have the ability to empower ourselves.  We choose how we respond to circumstances.  We can choose to not allow anyone or anything dictate our day, our decisions, etc.
  2. “Jack In the Box” – Mali Music.  This song speaks from a spiritual perspective.  On an individual basis, each of us are very unique and we can impact the world in a positive manner once we have a defined inner peace in order to be comfortable in our own skin and share our gifts and talents with the world.
  3. “Greetings Earthlings” – Rio (aka KuntryBoyy) – The drop of the beat in this song and the sound effects make it very unique.  This one also approaches the message from a spiritual perspective.  This song also speaks to being different, not of this world, but here to make an impact and here for a purpose.
  4. “Get Up” – Mary Mary – when I say daily, I mean daily for this song.  These song lyrics speaks volumes to a Fear Not Be Weird daily attitude in order to accomplish your goals daily; having a determined attitude to not give up realizing there are so many hours in a day that we all are privy to, so what are you going to do with them and your dreams and goals?
  5. “Happy” – Pharrell  Williams (Despicable Me 2) – A cool upbeat song. Again about having the right perspective and choosing to be happy regardless of circumstances.  The opportunities, ideas are limitless.  “Can’t nothing bring me down.”
  6. “Who I Am” – Danielle Bradbury – The Voice Performance – That inner peace – “I know exactly who I am.”  Even if I am still trying to find myself – I know who I am – a GIFT.  UNIQUE.
  7. “Think Good Thoughts” – Colbie Caillat – Just think positive.  The world is so busy and fast-paced and sometimes angry.  It is good to have a true balance, but again, we are also in control of our thoughts.  We can let the negativity influence our actions as well, but we can change to “think good thoughts” instead.
  8. “Beautiful Day” – U2 – No matter what, if you are alive and breathing, “it’s a beautiful day – don’t; let it get away”.  Perspective.
  9. “Keep Your Head Up” – Andy Grammer – “You gotta keep your head up –OOOOHHH!”  Reminds us to push through.  “Rainbows after rain, the sun will always come again.” Life is a cycle.  This song also reminds me a go-to Bible verse –Romans 8:28 (KJV) -- “ And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
  10. “Love Is All” – Je’Kob.  This is a song to get and jump around to and dance to and sing out VERY loudly!!!  Love is all that is needed ya’ll!  Love makes the world go around.  It’s like the universal language of a smile!  “LOVE IS EVERLASTING!!!!! “ However, as the song says too --- “If you let it.”  It will “blow your mind.  I’m gonna give it to ‘em.  We can change this place” ya’ll through LOVE! This song can be adapted from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 – in our opinion that is and maybe it was written from that angle; maybe not. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” ~ NIVOkay, so hold the press on this list – again, these songs are in no particular order and for this to be a Part I list – you would think we would just stop at 10 songs, but ummmm no; it was just too hard, so here are a few more for you to check out and see if you agree with our list and thought process here.
  11. “Let There Be Light” – Andy Mineo, ft. LeCrae – And let it be me.  Do you light up a room?  How is your influence?  What does your behavior and character look like and WHO do you represent?  “Let there be light” and let it be me!  This crew (116) has SO MANY artists and songs to choose from.  We’ll start with this one for now, as I am sure there will be additional songs on future lists/posts!!!
  12. “Gold”– Nicole Britt – I love, love, love this song and what it represents.  The video for this song is even awesome!  Each person is “Gold.”  Others may not be ready for it.  Maybe too small-minded or whatever the reason is.  However, bullying is not and should not be tolerated.  Fear Not Be Weird is all about anti-bullying!!!  No two persons are alike.  Even the hairs on our head are different as is the form and lines of our hands.Okay, so the last song on this Part I list for now is. . . .
  13. “Just Do You” – India Arie. – Enough Said!!!!

What songs come to mind, from your mental playlist or your actual playlist; that talks about embracing your uniqueness and inner peace?

Please share in the comments.

FOCUS

Magnifying-Glass.jpg

We are surrounded with distractions from the time our feet hit the floor to the time our head hits the pillow.

Computers, laptops, cell phones, internet, video games, television, email, text messaging, local news, national news, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn, etc.

There is nothing wrong with these multi-media mediums.   However, you need an intense focus in a world that can overwhelm and engulf you with its distractions before you even start your day.  Did I mention, your job, immediate family members, and extended family members?  Who can keep up with all this without an intense focus?

I have an acronym that will help you discover a focus you desperately need to grow in our worried-filled, crazed world.

F

Fearless

Be Fearless about keeping the distractions to a minimum.  Approach everyday of your life with an unflinching courage and resilience to keep your life de-cluttered.  Clutter hinders clarity.

O

Optimistic

An intense focus cannot occur with optimism.  Every day comes with its own set of challenges.  Conquer every day with confidence, hope, and a positive attitude.  Regardless of your mental resolve, stress-filled days are coming.  Why not open your mind to the fact that you can conquer all of your days?

C

Centeredness

Balance is the key!  This may be the most important point.  Centeredness is needed when setting daily or life priorities.  One priority should be to create balance in all areas of your life.  The more centered your life becomes, the less bumpy, rough, rugged your life experiences will be.  This allows you to position yourself for favorable outcomes.

U

Uncanny

Your focus needs to be uncanny.  Uncanny is defined as surpassing the ordinary or normal.  BE WEIRD!  To avoid being sucked into the distractions mentioned earlier, an uncanny focus is needed.  Many people and things will attempt to distract you, involuntarily.  However, be uncanny about choosing those things and people you decide to bring into your life.

S

Simplicity

At the end of the day, we just need to get back to the basics.  A big part of ridding ourselves of various distractions is simplicityLiving with as little as possible to improve clarity of our lives.  Some distractions are necessary, but not all.

Discover a new FOCUS and watch a transformation happen in your life.

Joyful Perspective

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine about our kids.  Sharing and reflecting.  We were talking about how fast time flies with watching your children grow. It made me think about life in general and how we take for granted some things.

Wherever you are in your life know that at any time things can change.  So, appreciate your seasons.

Regardless of whether it is…

A season of being a parent.

A season of being a spouse.

A season of having a job.

A season of starting a business.

A season of financial prosperity.

A season of finishing your education.

Be joyful for your present season.

Every thing is a learning experience and nothing last forever.

Enjoy the good and the bad, but more than anything utilize a joyful perspective because life is too short.

Don’t let life pass you by and at the end of your life, you find yourself with only regrets.

ENJOY YOUR SEASONS!

Meet the Ex's

No, I’m not talking about ex-girlfriends or ex-wives.

I’m talking about ATTITUDE!

How many times have you heard, “Life is all about attitude?”  You have heard this phrase so many times because it’s true.

Let me share with you two of my Ex’s I can’t do without.

Meet The Ex’s

#1 Extraordinary Perspective

Start your mornings off with an Extraordinary Perspective.

I believe everyone knows the importance of starting a race well.  If you are deciding to start anything in life, make sure you are starting strong with extraordinary perspective.

I don’t know a better way to begin your day, any relationship, work, school, etc.  Allow your ImAgiNAti()n to run free about the opportunities that will come from the day’s challenges.

It will take some practice, but extraordinary perspective will cause the next Ex to work for you.

#2 Extreme Confidence

If you believe you can, you will.

Often, all we lack is extreme confidence.

Extreme confidence dismisses distractions and ignores the naysayers.

Everyday you wake, make an attempt to Meet the Ex's and watch what will happen to your life.

Boarding Passes

I came across this quote about 2 weeks ago… A SHIP is designed to take you places.  So if your companionSHIP, friendSHIP, partnerSHIP, or relationSHIP isn’t taking you anywhere, then it’s best to abandon that SHIP.  You deserve nothing but the best and your worth is priceless.  ~Ranran

I thought about all the SHIPS I’ve been on and thought about the SHIPS I should have deserted a lot earlier.

We are familiar with the old adage of “Misery loves company.”

This quote by Ranran hits home for all of us.  We all have abandoned some SHIPS. But, for us to live out our true purpose God created us for, there are still some SHIPS we must leave behind because of our need of progression.

Life is about moving forward, growing, advancing, and developing.

We must LET GO of anything holding us back.

GOD DID NOT CREATE US TO SETTLE FOR NORMAL, BUT FOR US TO BE WEIRD (DIFFERENT)!

If a person doesn’t accept and respect your different, then they aren’t worth your time because life is short.

Life is a journey we all must travel.

On life’s journey, let me share…

2 TRAVEL REMINDERS:

#1  Be sure to check your boarding pass before boarding someone else’s SHIP.

You may be boarding the wrong SHIP.  (There are many signs that you are boarding the wrong SHIP, please don’t ignore them!)

#2  Be careful of giving others a boarding pass onto your SHIP.

You may regret letting someone whose intention is only to sink your SHIP.  (Be selective about giving others permission to enter your life who could careless about you deserving the best.)

Whatever you do, please choose your SHIPS wisely!

A Child-Like Persistence

I was hanging out with my oldest two sons at my oldest son’s fall festival this past Friday.  At the festival, we passed many intriguing and exciting exhibits.  However, we continued walking. As we were walking, a big castle demanded our attention and my boys begged me to play on the bouncy castle apparatus.  Without hesitation, we walked towards the long line of excited kids and disinterested parents.

While standing in line, my boys were smiling, jumping, and bouncing before even entering the bouncy apparatus.  Then, they bounced inside the unstable castle for about two minutes.  Kids exited with cries and screams for mommy and daddy from falling inside the castle.

As I struggled to maintain my sanity in the midst of this “castle of doom,” my boys only wanted one thing.  As my boys exited, I heard “Daddy, Daddy, can we go again.”  The boys ended up bouncing two more times in the “castle of doom.”  The three times I stood in the long line, I began to think about how we should have a child-like persistence.

So many times we give up too soon.

Our breakthrough can be just around the corner, but sometimes we give up a year, month, week, day, hour, minute, or a second too early.

3 Keys of Developing A Child-Like Persistence
  1. Excitement
  2. Patience
  3. Optimism

Use these three keys to develop a child-like persistence to open many doors of opportunity.

In the words of my sons, “We loved the festival, it was great.”

You will find yourself feeling that way about life, if you use these keys.

The Compass of Decision-Making

Who?  What?  When?  Where?  Why?  How? Should I do this?

Should I do that?

What will the outcome be if I take this or that route?

We all are pulled north, south, east, and west.

Need a compass?

The compass’ purpose is to provide direction.

How do you seek direction in your decision-making process?

Every single day, you and I are faced with a multitude of decisions.

What to wear, what to eat, what to buy, which way to go and on and on?  Some decisions to make are “minor” in nature and some are of greater importance, which may vary in short or long-term impact.

Recently, I was faced with making a very important decision; one of many.  I found myself “researching” the topic, as I would call it ---- researching statistics, reading other people’s opinions, comments, blogs, you name it.

It was OVERWHELMING!

Doing all this “research” did not in any way, assist with my decision.

It only made my final decision to be made that much harder to make.

Reading this “stuffrobbed me of my joy, my mental resolve and inner peace.  It led me to ask more questions instead of coming to a final decision.  By reading this “stuff,” I realized I was allowing society, other people’s opinions and comments to dictate what I could choose to do.

That is until I came to my senses and realized what I stood for.  I came to the realization that I needed to get back to my Fear Not Be Weird mentality.

It was then I came across these timely quotes, courtesy of Pinterest, but delivered directly by God.  It helped confirm my weirdness in my every day decision-making.

It doesn’t matter what others have done or choose to do.  It is dangerous to let anyone or anything dictate decision-making.

NOthing should rob you of the joy of a clear mind.

3 Simple Steps to Provide Direction with Decision-Making
#1  Analyze and assess your situation (Be Investigative)
#2  Come to a final resolve and make a final decision (Be Decisive)
#3  Live without regrets (Be Unrestricted)

Fear Not Be Weird in your decision-making process, going forward, and do what is best for you and your mentality.

Be weird enough to give yourself peace of mind.

Achieving the Goal of Now

I have discussed goal setting in many arenas.  When setting goals, many people focus on future accomplishments. (Which is not a bad idea.)  However, what about the goal of now?  It was Harvey Mackay that said, “A dream is just a dream.  A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline.” There are 3 steps to achieving the goal of now.

1. Know Where You Are

So, you have a goal you need to achieve.  A big part of achieving your goal has to do with knowing where you are with your state of mind.

Knowing where you are will help you get where you are going.

If you want to live an exceptional life, know where you are now to get where you are going later.  I do believe in action.  But action shouldn’t come before a proper thorough assessment of where you are.

2. Know Where You Are Going

After you know where you are, then you can properly plan and set a proper target date/time to achieve your goal.  I’m all about setting goals, whether it is short term, midpoint, long term, personal, professional, spiritual, athletically, relationally, etc.  When you know where you are going it makes you more prepared for the challenges ahead.

“More prepared” doesn’t mean your goal will be easy to achieve.  Yes, sacrifices will need to be made.  And yes, risks will need to be taken.  However, if you know where you are going, then it makes it a little easier for you to make sacrifices and take risks.  All because you have a goal and a destination in mind.

It will take determination and extraordinary mental resolve, if the goal is worthy enough of your time.

3. Change Now

What can you do right now to influence the success of your future?  Is it a change in perspective?  Is it a change of friends?  Or is it a change in action?

Regardless of what is needed, it needs to be done NOW!

I love quotes and encouraging thoughts.  Just the other day, my sister forwarded me a quote by Alan Kays that said, “The best way to predict the future is to invent it.”

We have full power to create the life that we want to live, but it starts right now.

Don’t just read this and go back to where you are — START NOW!  Make plans and couple your plans with realistic deadlines.

It doesn’t matter whether you start big or small.  Just start now.

Life and Hair Cuts

I was cutting my oldest two boys hair this past weekend.  By the way, the best thing my boys like about getting hair cuts is when it is over.  Every other second both boys while getting their hair cut would ask me the same question at least 30 times, “Daddy is it over yet.” I manage to cut their hair without cutting off any ears or messing up their hair by leaving uneven craters in their beautiful curly hair.  While cleaning up the cut hairs, today’s blog topic came to mind.

Life and Hair Cuts

In our lives, sometimes all we need is a hair cut.

Not a literal hair cut, but we need to cut some things out of our lives.

You may be asking yourself, “What can I cut out of my life, I need all of it?”

That very well could be the problem.

We all need to cut some things from our lives.

So here’s a thought…

Take some time to analyze those things that need to be cut out of your life.

Don’t stop there…

Go ahead and cut those things out to make you better.  (Fear Not Be Weird)

One more step…

After you make your cuts, don’t go back and try to add back those things.

Just like the the hair we cut off of our heads, please throw away those things holding you and your dreams back.

Opportunity Knocks

Opportunity-Knocks.001.jpg

Everyday you wake, you have an opportunity to live the best day of your life.

A new day is just that…NEW!

New perspective.  New goals.  New actions.  New dreams.  New opportunities.

When you don’t feel each day is new, maybe things are little too old and stale.  (No, I’m not talking about your age.)  And I’m not suggesting for you to get rid of your old possessions or relationships, unless they are denying you of what’s NEW.

Nothing should deny you the New that life has to offer.

It’s time for New Purpose.

A new reason to wake up.  A new reason to go to work.  A new reason to laugh.  A new reason to love.  A new reason to live.

Everyday, opportunity is knocking!

There are 5 things you should do when opportunity knocks on your door:

  1. Listen to the knock (Every opportunity won’t knock the same way.)
  2. Answer the door (It sounds simple.  However, many people have worthy opportunities, but never find the courage to open the door.  And they pass up legitimate opportunities to better their lives.)
  3. Ask questions about the opportunity  (Investigate the opportunity.  Even if you have an excellent opportunity you need to know what you are getting yourself into.)
  4. Decide whether it is a worthy opportunity knocking (Not every opportunity is meant for you to take)
  5. Pursue it passionately

What will you do when opportunity knocks?

The Fact of Life

Yesterday, one of my beloved family members had a close call with death from being in a motor vehicle accident.  (I’m so happy he is still alive with only minor injuries.) But it caused me to think about this one fact of life that we tend to forget…

Life is short!

"No one lives forever and we never know when it will be our time to go."

So with that said…

  • LOVE THOSE WHO ARE CLOSEST TO YOU.
  • BE KIND AND COMPASSIONATE TO THOSE WHO ARE LACK GENTLENESS.
  • HUG THOSE  WHO ARE IN NEED OF YOUR EMBRACE.
  • KISS THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED OF THE TENDER TOUCH OF YOUR LIPS.
  • SPEAK WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED OF SUPPORT.
  • ACT WITH A SENSE OF URGENCY TO ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS.

LIVE EVERY MOMENT LIKE IT IS YOUR LAST BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL BE YOUR LAST MOMENT!

Ordinary Heroes

It was this day 12 years ago, America experienced an unfathomable evil.  The heart of our nation was extremely wounded. In spite of the malicious acts of hate, the heart of America demonstrated that we are truly the UNITED States of America.

There were countless firefighters, police officers, businesspersons, and others pulling together to help their fellow Americans.  It didn’t matter if you were a father, mother, child, employed, unemployed, married, single, rich, or poor; everyone in some way helped.

Many people ran blindly into buildings and sacrificed their life voluntarily.

It was the actions of these ordinary heroes that sutured the hearts of all 50 states during and after those diabolical acts.

If you ask anyone involved in the immediate post-9/11 rescues, every man and woman said the same thing.  “It is what we do; I was just doing what any other American would have done.”   I believe this would also be the sentiments of all those who lost their lives on that life-changing day.

I was once told, “If everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot.”

How will you live your life in their honor?

Find a way to live doing a little of something to make a difference.

We honor these ordinary heroes who performed extraordinary courage in the face of ambiguity and fear.

We are appreciative to all involved with 9/11, along with those serving our country overseas everyday.  We THANK YOU!  Because of your service, we have our freedom to be weird.

Thank God for all the brave men and women who have died and those who are still risking their lives for the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

Make Your Mark

Make-your-Mark-fingerprint.jpg

The real mark of a good man or woman isn’t defined by a job, money, economic status, or any other materialistic possession.  If those things were determining factors, there would be many wonderful people left out of the conversation of being good men and women.

My parents always strongly encouraged serving mankind.  (I have had my challenges in this area, especially in my younger days.)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating for you to neglect self.

However, I’m Not Promoting Selfishness.  It’s quite easy to become a self-centered person and only take care of number 1.  It happens and people don’t even realize it.

How many times have you judged and/or ignored the needs of someone who was in need of your service?

Many people are in need of healing from past hurts and pains.

Be the change our world needs. A politician can't do it for you.  A preacher can't do it for you.  A teacher can't do it for you.  A friend or family member can’t do this for you.  It starts with YOU!

Try these three things to Make Your Mark starting today.

  1. Change Your Mind (Change the way you view yourself and others)
  2. Find Balance in Your Life
  3. Sacrificially Give Of Yourself (Remember time is more important than money.)

If you will try these three things, you will find it easier to Connect Your Heart With Your Dreams and will leave behind a legacy for everyone who enters your space.

Change this world in a positive way.

These are just a few very important things I believe will help you make a mark.  Share other ways we can make our mark and leave behind a legacy?

Over the last few years, there have been many disturbing stories in the news of people being afraid to take a stance for what’s right. Children and adults alike are being bullied, kidnapped, and mistreated in many ways while others are just watching it happen.  Situations needing someone to take a stance, but people are just sitting and watching.

What happen to people helping people, neighbors watching out for neighbors, and our fellowman living by the code of conduct?

It's Never Too Late

We have all heard about Diana Nyad.  From news stations, newspapers, to several side conversations; if you have heard anything about her story you have been moved. At the age of 64, Diana Nyad set a goal to swim from Cuba to Florida Keys.  She has set many records, but this one record of swimming from Cuba to Florida Keys was one dream she has set out to achieve since 1978.  Since 1978, she has come short four times of reaching her goal.  But Monday, September 2, 2013, just before 2 pm, her fifth attempt proved what commitment and dedication can produce.  Diana achieved her dream and swam into history.

You may question her strategy of how she did it.  You may even question her decision as to why she did it.  But the one thing you cannot question is her heart to get it done.  This was her personal dream.  No one else’s, so only she could get this done.

It is very inspiring to hear of Diana’s accomplishment.  We all can learn a lesson from this unique situation.  Diana taught us what happens when you connect your heart with your dreams.  After this happens, the results will speak for themselves.  (The rest will be history).

You may be wondering how you can connect your heart with your dreams.  Well, here are 3 ways to do just that, connect your heart with your dream.

3 Ways of Connecting Your Heart With Your Dreams

1) Believe

You first must believe that whatever you are setting out to do is possible.

2) Be Courageous

Without courage, you will be easily discouraged from achieving your dreams.  People will talk, history/statistics may be against you, you will fail before you will succeed, but you must have courage to believe in your dream.

3) Take Action

It is good to talk, but you must have action behind your verbal commitment to achieve your dream.

Practice these 3 ways of connecting your heart with your dreams.   If you practice this technique; not only will you achieve your dreams, but you will also inspire someone else’s dream.

Together, join me in congratulating Diana Nyad for her remarkable accomplishment.   And I congratulate you in advance for your future dream achievements.
