4 NEW THINGS TO TAKE INTO THE NEW YEAR
/What do you need in 2018 to make you wildly successful?
Maybe it is one thing, but it could be several things. It is quite possible that what you really need, you may not know that you really need it.
A little over a year ago, I wrote a blog called 3 SURE WAYS TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR. In this blog, I shared the top 10 resolutions of most Americans and 3 ways to avoid ending up like the 92% of Americans that are unsuccessful at keeping their resolutions.
In another blog BE THE RARE EXCEPTION, I discussed how many people live on “Someday Isle.” In the book No Excuses: The Power of Self-Disciple, motivational speaker and self-development author Brain Tracy explains that 80% of the world’s population lives on “Someday Isle.” “Someday Isle” is when we say, “Someday I’ll do this or that.”
If you practice one of more of these 4 things we discuss in today’s blog, you avoid being the 92% of Americans that are unsuccessful at keeping their resolutions or the 80% of the world’s population that lives on “Someday Isle.”
1. New Perspective
It is critical to have a new perspective if you want to enjoy a successful 2018. A new perspective consists of a new way of learning and a new way of thinking.
American Inventor Jacque Fresco said, “In order to design a future of positive change, we must first become experts at changing our minds.”
In what areas of your life do you need new perspective?
How we think determines whether we will shape our future. Do you think the best or worst when things happen? If you want the best, you have to think the best. If you want to be respected, you must give respect. If you want to be loved, you have to start loving others. It all starts with you and your perspective.
2. New Expectations
How realistic and achievable are your expectations of yourself?
American writer Ralph Marston said this about expectations, “Don’t lower your expectations to meet your performance. Raise your level of performance to meet your expectations. Expect the best of yourself, and then do what is necessary to make it a reality.”
Expectations are basically your goals. If your expectations are unreal, it’s time to redefine your expectations. There are three keys to defining expectations for your 2018:
1. Make no assumptions.
2. Set clear and concise goals.
3. Constantly revisit your goals.
When you set your expectations with these things in mind, you will keep yourself from setting lofty or comfortable goals.
3. New Simple Processes
Life can get hectic quickly with all of our commitments and all the things we want to do. It’s no wonder we become overwhelmed. Having so much on our plate can lead to nothing getting done, which leaves us with feelings of being “stuck.”
American philosopher and historian Henry David Thoreau knows about simplification. His said the following on the importance of simplifying your life, “Our life is frittered away by detail… simplify, simplify.”
What can you remove from your life to simplify your 2018?
All of us can benefit from adding new simple processes to our lives. After you remove some things, it is vital that you implement simple systems. Believe it or not, simplicity leads to success.
4. New Health Plan
It goes without saying that we must take into the New Year a good health plan.
Four years ago, I ruptured my Achilles and limped into the New Year awaiting an Achilles repair. For the first time in my life, I realized how important my health was to my success.
What new health plan do you need to incorporate into your daily routine in 2018?
If you don’t have a health plan, you should consider your sleeping patterns, workout regimens, eating habits, etc. Health plans not only helps you with being at your best physically, but it also will help you with being at your best mentally.
2018 is your year. Don’t let anyone tell you different or anything hinder you from making this year the best year of your life. With any of these four things, you way take control over determining how much success you will experience in 2018.
